So too, you also must be prepared, for at an hour you do not expect, the Son of Man will come. - Matthew 24:44

The gospel reading is taken from the book of Mathew chapter 24, verses 37-44.

This Sunday, December 1 is the start of advent. Jesus said to his disciples “As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the son of Man. In those days before the flood, they were eating and drinking… “
The gospel is telling us that God is coming in an unexpected moment and we should be prepared on when this will happen.  The Gospel is also reminding us the story of Noah, when God spoke to him and told him to build an ark. The ark will be used during a flood which will wash everything up. As what happened to the story of Noah, he was able to save the lives of animals and also his family.

In those days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage,
up to the day that Noah entered the ark.”  In this line, it is stating on what other people was doing before Noah enter the ark.  As you can see, they don’t care and unable to prepare of the coming. So when the rain poured and water level was rose, it was the only time they were able to react on the event.

After reading the gospel, I have realized that I should prepare myself on Jesus’ coming. I must not relax myself on doing the things that would distract me and cause me to lose track of what is truly happening.  I should repent my sin and be aware of my actions because no one knows when the second coming will happen. When that day comes, I should be ready for that encounter with him.

It also doesn’t mean that on the 25th of December is the only particular day he will arrive. The second coming could happen anytime at any given moment. We, His believers should not pleasure ourselves on doing anything that will make us regret and realize that it’s too late to repent.
